Ein kompakter, handlicher Sony HDV Camcorder, mit HDV Auflösung. Die Aufnahme erfolgt auf MiniDV Cassette, dem immer noch ausgereiftesten und kostengünstigsten Aufnahmeverfahren. Die HC7 verfügt über einen 3 Megapixel ClearVid CMOS Sensor, Carl Zeis Vario-Sonnar T Objektiv, einem 6, 8cm 16:9 Clear Photo Touchscreen-LCD und knipst Fotos in einer Auflösung von 6, 1 Mega-Pixel. Für die direkte Ausgabe auf einen modernen LCD oder Plasmafernseher stehen ein HDMI- und ein Komponenetenausgang zur Verfügung. Natürlich beherrscht die Camera auch das normale DV-System. Dazu erfolgt eine interne Signalkonvertierung von HDV auf DV.
