At 500 m. above sea level you will find the small Harz village Elend, in the valley of the Cold Bode, picturesque situated at the base of the Brocken and lies peacefully in the middle of large, with colored mountain meadows varying with pine- and loaf tree forests. The village is known for the smallest wooden church of Germany and is a lovely holiday destination in every season. Endless hiking courses invite one to discover the region in the summer time and with a bit of luck you will even encounter wild life such as deer, swines, foxes or the new set out lynx.
